Journey

Bochum is situated in the heart of the Ruhr district and offers a very good traffic connection.

Journey by Train

In the railway system of Deutsche Bahn AG Bochum is situated at the Bergisch Bergisch-Maerki line. The main station Bochum - at the same time system stop in the intertown center network - is daily reached by 61 euro and intertown trains. Since 1989 Bochum is an hourly station of the Interregiolinie (Aachen Duisburg Kassel Bebra Erfurt Chemnitz). After the timetable change 1995/96 Bochum is a stop for the ICE "Spreekurier".

Under Bochumer main station stops the underground line 35. One direction is Herne main station the other one is Hustadt/University.

The public local passenger traffic (OEPNV) guarantees the largest regional mobility in the Ruhr district. It maintains an extremely close network of busses and trains as well as rapid-transit railways in all directions and in close clock sequences.

Journey by car

On the North-South axis Bochum is crossed by the A43/A 1 (Hamburg-Cologne), the exit Ruhr University is situated in the motorway interchange A43 with A44. (departure No. 19). On the east west axis Bochum is crossed by the A44 (Netherlands-Kassel) as well as by the B1/A40 (Ruhrschnellweg). Seen from Bochum city center the Ruhr University is situated in the southeast (Universitätsstraße direction motorway)

Journey by airplane

The nearest airport is Duesseldorf. From there count approx. 45 minutes by car or approx. 60 minutes travel time on the rapid-transit railway to the Ruhr University. Well one autohour is to be set, if one wants to start from the international airport Muenster/Osnabrueck or Cologne/Bonn. Very near for business travels are the two regional airports Dortmund-Holzwickede and Essen-Muelheim, as well as the airfield of Marl-Loemuehle.
